Therapy for Christians

When Your Faith is Central to Your Life

Is your Christian faith an important part of who you are and how you want to live? Maybe you've hesitated to begin therapy because you want a therapist who will not only respect your faith, but understand how deeply it shapes your values, relationships, decisions, and view of the world.

Therapy is deeply personal. When your therapist understands your worldview and the values that guide your life, you can spend less time explaining the foundation of your beliefs and more time doing the deeper work of healing, growing, and becoming the person you want to be.

I work with Christian clients who want their faith to be meaningfully integrated into therapy. For clients who desire it, we can incorporate Christian principles, scripture, prayer, and teachings of Jesus Christ into our work while also using evidence-based therapeutic approaches.

Faith, Values and Mental Health

A significant part of my approach to therapy is helping clients build a value-driven life. I believe that lasting fulfillment comes not only from accomplishing goals, but from learning to live in alignment with what matters most.

For Christian clients, faith can be an important part of that process. We can explore how your relationship with God, your understanding of Scripture, and your Christian values influence the way you approach anxiety, relationships, career decisions, boundaries, suffering, forgiveness, purpose, and personal growth.

My goal is not simply to help you feel better temporarily. It is to help you develop healthier ways of thinking, behaving, relating, and responding to life's challenges while becoming more intentional about the person you want to be.

When Faith and Suffering Intersect

Sometimes the hardest parts of life raise deeper questions about faith. You may be experiencing grief, anxiety, depression, disappointment, uncertainty, or a difficult life transition and wondering where God is in the middle of it.

For Christians, suffering can be an opportunity to draw closer to Christ rather than something that must simply be endured alone. Exploring suffering through the lens of your faith can provide meaning, hope, and perspective while still allowing space to honestly acknowledge the psychological and emotional pain you're experiencing.

Therapy can also help you identify the resources already available to you through your faith community, relationships, prayer, religious books, scripture, and other spiritual practices that are meaningful to you.

When Faith is Part of the Struggle

Faith can also be connected to the difficulties bringing you to therapy.

I work with clients navigating concerns such as religious or faith-related anxiety, religious trauma, scrupulosity or religious OCD, questions about faith, guilt, shame, and conflict between their beliefs and other areas of their lives.

These concerns can be particularly difficult when you feel that your faith is supposed to provide peace, but instead you find yourself experiencing fear, obsessive thoughts, guilt, or confusion.

Therapy can help you distinguish between healthy faith and patterns of anxiety, perfectionism, or obsessive thinking that may have become intertwined with your religious beliefs.

Dating, Relationships and Christian Values

For Christian clients, dating and relationships can bring unique questions. You may be thinking about dating intentionally, discerning marriage, navigating physical or emotional boundaries, determining compatibility, or trying to understand how your faith should influence your relationship decisions.

I can help you explore these questions through both a therapeutic and Christian values-based lens. We can examine your desires, values, relationship patterns, concerns, and decision-making without making the decision for you.

My role is not to tell you what God's will is for your life. Instead, I help you slow down, think clearly, understand yourself, identify what matters most to you, and make decisions that are consistent with your values and faith.

How I Integrate Christianity Into Therapy

Christianity does not replace evidence-based therapy. Instead, for clients who desire it, faith becomes an additional and meaningful lens through which we understand the work we're already doing.

Depending on your needs and preferences, therapy may incorporate:

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT)

Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT)

Solution-focused therapy

Values exploration

Christian principles and teachings

Scripture

Prayer or other spiritual practices

Reflection on forgiveness, grace, suffering, purpose, and identity

Exploring how faith influences relationships and decision-making

You are always welcome to tell me how much or how little you want your faith incorporated into our sessions. My goal is to meet you where you are and create a therapeutic experience that respects both your mental health needs and your Christian worldview.

A Christian Therapist Who Understands Both Faith & Mental Health

As a Christian therapist serving clients in Irvine and throughout Orange County, I understand that faith is not simply one compartment of life that can be separated from everything else. For many Christians, faith influences how they understand themselves, their relationships, their purpose, their suffering, and the decisions they make.

My goal is to provide a space where you can bring your whole self to therapy—including your faith—without feeling like you need to leave an important part of yourself at the door.

Therapy is not about becoming a perfect Christian or using faith to avoid difficult emotions. It is about creating space for honest reflection, healing, growth, and deeper alignment between the life you're living and the values you want to live by.
